Membership of IWSAM is a mark of professional trust. Every Associate Member, Member and Fellow is expected to uphold this Code of Conduct in full, in every professional engagement, as a condition of continued membership.
Act with honesty and integrity
Members must deal truthfully and fairly with clients, colleagues, employers, and the Institute. Honesty in professional representations — including qualifications, experience, and advice given — is non-negotiable and underpins the trust placed in every designation the Institute awards.
Maintain professional competence
Members must keep their knowledge and skills current throughout their career, including through the Institute's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements, and must only offer advice or services within the bounds of their genuine competence.
Protect confidential information
Members must safeguard confidential client, employer, and Institute information, and must not disclose or use such information for personal advantage or any purpose other than that for which it was provided.
Exercise objectivity and independence
Members must exercise sound, independent professional judgement, free from undue influence, conflicts of interest, or personal gain, and must disclose any circumstance that could reasonably be seen to compromise their objectivity.
Comply with applicable laws and regulations
Members must comply with all laws, regulations, and professional standards applicable to their jurisdiction and area of practice, and must not knowingly participate or assist in any violation of such requirements.
Promote responsible wealth and asset management
Members must act in the best interests of the clients and institutions they serve, applying sound risk management and giving due regard to the long-term and sustainable stewardship of the wealth and assets entrusted to them.
Respect the reputation of the Institute
Members must conduct themselves, in professional and public life, in a manner that upholds the standing of the Institute and its designations, and must not engage in conduct likely to bring the Institute or the profession into disrepute.
Demonstrate accountability in professional practice
Members must take responsibility for their professional decisions and their consequences, respond openly to legitimate scrutiny of their conduct, and cooperate fully with any inquiry conducted by the Institute.
Non-compliance
Failure to comply with this Code may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or withdrawal of membership. Any disciplinary action is conducted in accordance with the Institute's disciplinary procedures and principles of natural justice.
